The funniest invite in ages

So... big football game this weekend (isn't that the case every weekend this fall??) and you know I love me a bit of wit. The following is an email I received this week and can't seem to stop replaying it in my head. We'll be there, and I don't mind saying that part of my excitement for going is based on the pure entertainment value of the invite:

Subject: TX vs. Technical

My fellow Americans,

Four scores and thirty beers ago our Longhorns brought forth on this campus another victory. Conceived in Belmont, and dedicated to the proposition that all schools were not created equal. Now we are engaged in a great Civil War, testing whether this University, or another on the South Plains (that accepts lower test scores) can long endure. The world will little note, nor long remember this directional school from Lubbock. However, they can never forget that the Run and Shoot offense only works in the Astro Dome and Mike Leach's Wild Turkey addled dreams.

We here highly resolve that this game shall not be watched in vain -- that this University, under DeLoss, shall have another National Championship -- and that the coaching prowess of Mack, by Major, and for Colt, shall not perish from the BCS.

Crockett High School Football Rules!

...okay, so we would like all of you to come over for a game watching party on Saturday at our house. We will have bbq and various forms of intoxication, so only bring yourselves. Also, some of you may be headed to Halloween related parties, so feel free to drop by in costume. Ladies, remember less is more and naked is the new black. The game starts at 7:00 but come by anytime...I think Stump said he was coming at 5:00.

Let me know if you can't make it so I can take you off my Christmas card list.

My TexMex Star-Crossed Love

Jalapeno ranch dip,
Why are you so mean?
You know I LOVE to eat you
And lick the bowl clean.

I choose you over Queso!
But my Chuy's lunch will remain
To bring me twenty minutes later
Into a world of stomach pain.

Celebrations in the City

Pics!
Here are some snaps from the weekend in New York. I have some artsy ones that I'm really digging, but I'm thinking the sugar high has me a bit hyperactive in choosing pictures to post (note: way to many pictures posted already)

Maybe I'll try reading a book. THAT should put me right to sleep!

Cupcakes and Memory Cards

So... i made cupcakes tonight and I am quite thrilled with them. They have a creamy amaretto center. Mmmmm.... The problem is that i ate: batter when i was done with the bowl, amaretto cream filling when i was done filling, icing once i finished icing, and then a couple cupcakes (just to test the filling, of course). I am now officially on a ridonculous sugar high and can't really even imagine getting ready for bed, let alone doing it. More of a problem: tomorrow will be a busy day at work, i meant to get some work done tonight and we have a fund raiser party thing tomorrow night which I will likely be a zombie at. but whatcha gonna do? at this point, i can't undo the cupcakes and absurd amounts of sugar I consumed tonight so here i am. posting. at midnight.

on a separate front: thanks to sweet Amy who got me to accompany her on a camera class last weekend.... i learned that memory cards can have their pictures recovered, even if accidentally deleted (so long as no new pics are taken on the card) OR if, say, it got wet. YEP! "Just dry it out and bring it to the store" the guy tells me and you, too can have your pictures recovered. WAHOO!!! THIS, my friends, means that ...you're sayin' there's a chance*.... that I might get those July 4th pictures, after all. ~holla!

I'll keep you posted. (Pun intended.)

1 Year & 1 Day of Madeleine Mae

Sunday, September 21, 2008: Poopsie's first birthday party.

She LOVED her party and clearly knew it was all about her.
It was fantastic.
cake work by Aunt Emmie (on the white & pink one)
(it says "One year and one day of Madeleine Mae")

Dive on in, sweet cakes...

Straight to the tub!
....contemplating cake.
Yep, still having fun.

Getting dressed for round 2 and seeing herself on her first-year-of-life-slideshow (from Aunt Emmie, of course, with love)

Yay for the toys that make noise!
hahahahahaha - easy for me to say
...the tutu was pretty fun, too...
...And a sweet hug from cousin lucian

Damn she's cute.

en-why-see, happy b-day to me

Had a brilliant time in The City: Saw wonderful friends, took fantastic pictures, celebrated all kinds of things, laughed a lot... and it is as if The City was celebrating, too because the weather was off-the-charts gorgeous.

As previously noted: our other computer crashed. Mr. Price is now using my computer with all my camera software on it and given that he is on the computer approximately, um, all waking hours... doesn't give a big window of opportunity for me to download pics from camera to upload. Pics pending.

In spite of the fact that I was travelling on my actual bday: it was a magnificent birthday. Started the day off with brunch in the West Village at Tartines with Jess & fiance Michael (who was precious and brought us gerber daisies). Had a wonderfully uneventful travel back AND won the airplane lotto (window seat with no one next to me in the middle seat). Land and receive a whole load of texts and bday messages. YAY!! Then Precious Mr. Price meets me at the airport with a fancy shmancy new flash for my camera (I hadn't asked for anything so I was pleasantly surprised to but it mildly - more like ecstatically shocked...) followed by a Divine dinner at Mandola's and cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery that made it all the way home. THEN a knock on the door and Erin & Jim had Tiff's Treat's delivered (for those not on team Austin, it is a freshly baked cookie & brownie delivery service) so... FRESH from the oven snicker doodles, choc chip cookies, brownies, AND cute little milk cartons (got to reinforce those strong bones!).

Can't think of how it could have been better.

Yawn- sorry for the dull post, but it sure was fun for me to re-live for my own self. And it's as if I had a whole side-dialog-thing going on with the extra-large order of parentheses, huh?

Pics pending......

Monday Poetry

An original poem for your reading pleasure this morning:

Ahem...

Sweet Remembrance by Emily Price

I coughed
To cover up the laugh
That surprisingly escaped
Upon remembering

Murphy

(actually wrote this on the plane yesterday, just now posting)

Bless his heart. So… here were are in the middle of the most stressful weeks of the quarter. Deemed "SEVERE" stress level. Mid terms next week, we spent a little time organizing food and sleep schedules for Mr. Price so that he could get done what was needed for the weekend= each half hour planned and crammed with stuff to be done it seemed. Well wouldn't you know, he goes to class this morning and….. His computer won't turn on. Yep- computer crashed and he's lost all of his work to date. Nice. Painful.

Doesn't really help that the night before he was looking around for his hard drive to back up all his files, didn't find it and figured he'd do it later. Little did he know that he wouldn't be turning his computer back on again.

If there was a possible worst time ever for this to happen..well, i suppose sunday night could have been a little worse... So who is this Murphy guy anyway and why did he have to come up with this stupid law?

So friends, the lesson here is: back up your files. And then back them up again.

100 and counting

This is actually post #101. but it doesm't really count since it's really just a post about posting.

happy friday from a coffee house in new york's west village... where i finally got internet. and my "got" i mean lifted and by 'lifted' i mean piggybacked. you get the picture.

Grosser than Gross

Okay, if you are going to be grossed out, take a hint from the title and don't read on. --End Disclaimer--

Woke up this morning at 7:30, (oh, yes, rose right outta bed) birds chirping and the whole bit. Sweet Mr. Price made coffee for me (awww...) poured myself a cup, checked a couple emails from my computer spot at the kitchen table then stepped into the shower (with coffee - finished it off… Mmmm). Perfect start to the day.

Here we go: Towel drying hair. Notice hair sure has gotten long, need a cut. Ready to flip head over and wrap in a towel… lean back a little, start to thrust head forward to flip wet hair over… mid flip: weird muscle contraction in my chest- head moving forwad, now upside down and going to the back swing… OMG! Coffee-acid-reflux ALL UP IN my nasal cavity. AHHH!!! the burning, the burning… running to sink where I snarf up as much water up my nose as possible (something I avoid like the plague when say, in the pool or at the beach).. And desperately try anything to make the burning stop and get it out! It's like some awful acid got poured in there way up high and I can't get it out. Sick out, man.

It still burns. Now I know why the Joker was so darn mean… he dealt with this every day. I am now terrified to flip my hair over. Something about the stinging, non-remedy-able agony of acid up the nose nullifies the loveliness of birds chirping and morning dew after a gentle evening rain.

On a separate note: Kelley- I promise to get Maddie's bday pics up soon- my goal is next 48 hours. Hold me to it. Anyway, I need the distraction of having too much to do so I don't notice the bleach-like smell each time I inhale.

I'm dense!

..And quite excited about it, really. Friend Reese is a PhD candidate in nutrition and working on a study. I was one of her many subjects which meant I spent about 3 hours at different UT facilities having various tests done so she can add all the data up with her other guinea pigs for her research.

I had my body fat tested ~1 million different ways: MRI, laser scans, electrical currents (that I couldn't feel-- it's not hazing here, people), water displacement, air displacement and a DEXA scan. What is a DEXA scan? Glad you asked! I didn't know, either. It's a really low grade x-ray (1/30 of radiation you get say, at the dentist's office) and it scanned my whole body for both bone mineral density and soft tissue. Turns out: my bone density is ~2 standard deviations above average for my size. Been awhile since your last statistics class? Me too. That means I was literally almost off the chart.

The guy who runs the machine was all: "What's your background?!" and Reese says "oh my gosh.." [meanwhile I slightly freaking out thinking "what on earth did they find and what does he mean by 'background'?"] and then he says "did you do ballet?" and Reese continues "do you drink a lot of milk?"

While the answer to both is yes, WE know (as in me and you) that it clearly is not because of any physical activity I participate in (see here) and while I do drink quite a bit of milk, I wouldn't call it freakish amounts. Surely not enough for super-bones. So the 'why' remains a mystery to me.

Anyway, this news has been *REALLY* fun for me. Not only can I quit worrying about pending osteoporosis (since my profile is the poster child for brittle bones) - but it's just really fun to know that. Don't know why. AND it is really fun to use as explanation/excuse/justification for things. (Poor Mr. Price) Not to mention just good conversation piece:

Examples!

  • Eating the butter garlic sauce with our pizza this weekend: "You know, I should probably stick with eating this stuff regularly... it might be the reasons my bones are so strong"
  • "Honey, will you be sure to pick up some blue bell at the store? Got to keep fortifying my bone density!"
  • While he is walking around the house, getting his attention and saying "If you look really closely.... you can see my strong bones!"
  • "Is that your mom?" [he nods yes] I continue with a whisper "don't forget to tell her about... my bone density" =)
Oh, the excitement and humor just doesn't seem to end when it comes to bone mineral density.

Footnote: I did not divulge my lack of physical activity to the DEXA scan guy. I figure it's best to not out myself as a lazya$$ and blow his theory about why my bones are so crazy-dense.

Tricky Trickster

These are Miss Maddie's new tricks (well, as of late August-so 11 mos- Auntie is just a little late on posting pics)

No idea where she got this one: She puts her hands to her ears like this and sighs "ohhhh." She does it randomly when the mood strikes her just right, but now she'll also do it on queue.

She REALLY enjoys feeding people

Scrunching her nose while laughing (this she comes by genetically, one would think)

Oh- this is an old trick- just general cuteness.

Mr Price's Schedule

Had a couple questions about Mr Price's school. Looks like this:

During the week: up by 5, at school by 6. Class over between 11:30-12:30, drive straight home, eat lunch, sitting down in the cabana within 30 minutes of class ending. Preps business cases, valuates businesses, completes other school work. Takes 30-45 minute break to eat dinner and talk with wifey (that's me). Continues working until 12:30 (or in the last few days, as late as 2am) when he goes to sleep. A couple days a week, he works out for 30 minutes.

Thursdays he stops at 7p: we go on date night.
Fridays he stops at 7p: we go do something fun & relaxing
Weekends: up by 7:30, works until 7pm on Saturday. Sunday he works until 12:30 or later.

The next couple weeks are mid terms and this group project/contest that is tomorrow afternoon. These are the most stressful weeks of the semester.

He's sleep deprived and I'm pretty sure he has a sinus infection. Oh, and last night after he said he was sure it was going to be a late night because he had so much work to do, we ate dinner in less than 10 minues. About 20 minutes after that, we found out that his grandpa is having open heart surgery today.

Makes you want to go back to school, eh?
