Wow this is cool. I'm out and about again!
went to picket fences and looked at baby slings, just stopped at the grocery store for gum & panty hose (control top, thank ya very much), and now heading to the flower shop- all within half a mile from home.
Super exited and feel so 'free'; Yet can't believe this is a 'big' outing... Seriously??
But then a terrifying thought: what will happen once my mother in law goes home???

It's been 4 weeks and 6 days with my precious baby: wonderful,
amazing, priceless, exhausting and bleary eyed.
My wonderful mother in law arrived last night and since has cleaned
the kitchen, done laundry, scoured the refrigerator, dishes, diapers
and bought me food and drinks. And now sending me out for the
afternoon, celebrating the day. Now I am off to a massage followed
by some shopping and fun errands before returning to my clean home and
sweet happy baby.

Granted, it's been a while since I've really enjoyed a glass, but this
was
divine.
Perfect way to celebrate.
So this is what impulse shopping in my life is life right now: an extra changing table for our bedroom for a couple weeks. Oh, the luxury and thrill of it all.
And, to be clear, I have not been a part of any of the 5 trips to babies r us, 4 trips to target, 2 trips to buy buy baby and other trips to walgreens, grocery, and local hippie pharmacy that Mr. Price had made in the past 5 days. I wonder what it would have been like to have been prepared. Given the stress if not being ready, comparatively speaking, to the stress of worrying about a newborn and his care-- this would have been a cakewalk. Things are smoothing out and it's crazy how much 'free time' I feel like i have now.
And we thought Rio would have a hard time adjusting....She sits and keeps watch over her baby all day long. We've never seen this kitty so content.

My dad was here in under 2 min at flat last night and collectively
they decided to wait until morning after checking everything out. I
wasn't too keen on an afterhours service man showing up at some
unpredictable time in the middle of the night anyway
Well he was back this morning and spent some time checking it out
again and working around me & shorty's eating/pumping schedule-- he
fixed it! Yay! Heater backoin downstairs and the other half of the
lights in the house are working again. Yay yay yay

The electricity just went out in half the house, including the downstairs furnace and lights in Jackson's room. It's suppose to freeze tonight in Austin.
Just as we were about to hit a stride (due greatly in part to all of sweet Anna Herd who, like some sort of angel stopped in today to give us peace of mind and even more time in each feeding cycle, not to mention saving mr price from some errands).
Now here we are behind the curve and instead of the 2 hour nap I was about to take and prep work he was going to do to smooth out the night, I've been scrambling to sort things out and set up temp space to get us through the next few hours.... now just anxiously typing single-handed on the phone and waiting for the hour.

Pictures from Jackson's first hours at home last night.
Given that every three hours around the clock I am nursing followed by pumping (a process that takes anywhere from 1-2 hours) with the remaining time split between eating, sleeping, organizing and tryig to finish "getting ready" for his arrival (dreadfully under prepaired).... Basic newborn baby stuff, but add in top of that extra feeding needs and a lack of supplies needed to take care of said new born, outside of chores, tying up loose ends, prepairinf the house, prepairing his room and so on and so forth.
That given, I've not quite uploaded any pictures (don't have any idea where the compute even is, let alone turn it on and actually do something. But my sweet sister is super on top of things and sent these. I'd love to add captions but since that won't happen any time soon, i figured its best for uou just use your imagination :)I can kinda see them through my phone and though it has taken me half the day to type this ramble (which prolly doesn't make much sense) he is sleeping on my chest now so I will finish. I am thrilled/relieved to be able to send out pics at all. :)
He is doing great. Today just after 6pm tonight we looked at the clock and realized that a week ago the doctor was telling me to "push" for the last time...

Ps. The green quilt on his changing table was in his crib in NICU- they gave it to us to keep. So precious to me. And organization called 'stitches of love' makes quilts for the NICU babies and it is beyond words I can currently grasp to describe what it means for your newborn child to be swaddled up, laying on his hospital bed, connected to monitors and IVs, and have a little quilt under him rather than a standard issue hosptal sheet. This coming from a girl who after two years if volunteering in a NICU was quite accustomed to the sights and sounds in there...

We have been in 'fast forward' mode ever since.
Moved all out stuff, a stressful feeding went not so well as the
orders were being written (which could gave called the whole thing
off), car seat test , more tears as Liz (today's nurse) rolled him in
the room for me to finally have my baby boy to myself- free of cords,
monitors, lead wires and tubes. Followed by feedings and pumping and
nurses and doctors nonstop and news that this 'boy procedure' would
happen today (a sign that the drs expect to send us home soon)
But us going home is dependant now on his weight and temp. He's got to
show weight gain by tomorrow (show me a 5 day old who isn't losing
weight!) or we likely get another day. Which means there is no room
for the little fella to not eat well on a feeding (good luck with that
and a newborn- even without the stress of his procedure this afternoon).
But even with the stress, I'm beyond the moon with a content heart -
regardless of everything else going with our situation- because my
baby is with me and Team Price is together. This feels like supreme
serenity, in a windowless room somewhere within a huge hospital-around
the corner from the room with the constant beep-buzz of alarms and
monitors, chorus of shrill baby cries and heartbreaking conversations
between parents and doctors- we are together in a time warp and the
world outside swirls around us.
We may not go home tomorrow, but that's okay. Home is where my people
are.
Aunt MImi gets a Gold Star for this, for sure. It loaded sideways, so just turn your head to the side and see my baby about 10 minutes after he was born.
You'll hear his Aunt Jackie (who as with us all day besides for my 'resting' time in the afternoon and up until it was time to push) and his Pappy (my Daddy), who he is named after, in the background.

Mom & Dad are doing great and can't seem to stop counting our blessings.
